How the process unfolds

  1. 1

    Exploratory call (15 minutes)

A free first contact to see whether we are a good fit and identify your needs.

  2. 2

The first session: Assessment and co-construction

If we decide to work together, this official session marks the beginning of the assessment of your social functioning and the joint development of your intervention plan. This framework remains completely flexible: if intense emotions or urgent concerns arise, we immediately adjust course to prioritize what needs to be soothed.

  3. 3

    Psychosocial follow-up: Our goals

This is a collaborative space where we move at your pace to:

    • Clarify the current situation and identify fundamental needs.
    • Welcome difficult emotions in a safe space.
    • Explore new perspectives and concrete possible solutions.
    • Develop practical tools to ease daily life.
    • Mobilize your resources to rebuild balance and regain agency in your life.

A protected space: Confidentiality and professional integrity

Trust is the very foundation of psychosocial support. As a social worker (permit no. TURJ2211150TS) and a member in good standing of the Ordre des travailleurs sociaux et des thérapeutes conjugaux et familiaux du Québec (OTSTCFQ), my practice is rigorously governed by a strict code of ethics.

I am fully committed to offering you a space where you can feel safe enough to set things down. Everything explored in our sessions is protected by professional confidentiality. In accordance with the law, this confidentiality has strict limits and may be lifted only in the following situations:

Apart from these specific legal requirements, you can be assured that our virtual office remains a private, highly secure place devoted entirely to your well-being.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a social worker and a psychologist?

Although professionals in both fields share the same goal—supporting your well-being and offering a safe space—their perspectives differ:

A social worker takes a broad view of your reality. Their attention is directed not only to your inner world—your emotions and story—but also to everything around you: your environment, relationships, work, couple, family and living conditions. The work aims to help you mobilize your strengths, change habits or relationship dynamics, and regain agency in your daily life.

A psychologist focuses more on personality structure, in-depth analysis of psychological functioning and the assessment of mental disorders using specific psychometric tools. Their approach often examines psychological mechanisms and inner suffering more closely.

Is virtual care as effective as in-person care?

Yes. Many studies show that online psychosocial intervention is just as effective as in-person sessions. In reality, the central factor in success is not the physical location of the session, but the quality of the bond of trust—the therapeutic alliance—that develops between us.

Remote support also offers unique advantages that can make the process easier:

  • Comfort and safety: Being in your own environment, with your tea or in your favourite space, can make it easier to discuss vulnerable subjects.
  • Access and flexibility: By removing travel time and waiting at a clinic, sessions are much easier to fit into daily life, wherever you live in Quebec.
  • Preserved privacy: You retain full control over your consultation space, away from outside eyes.

As long as you have a quiet, private place and a good internet connection, virtual care allows for support that is just as deep, human and rigorous as private in-person practice.

How many sessions should I expect?

There is no strict standard. Some people find relief after 4 to 8 focused sessions, while others prefer longer-term support. We will assess your needs together during the first session.

Which language will we use?

Sessions take place in the language that allows you to express yourself with the greatest ease and authenticity: French, English or Spanish. If your thoughts move between two languages, we can absolutely alternate. Language is an important part of your comfort, so we will discuss it openly from our first session and establish what suits you best.

Will my insurance cover your services?

Social work services are covered by most Canadian group insurance plans and employee assistance programs (EAPs). An official receipt will be provided after every session to support your claim. Because reimbursement terms vary between policies, I invite you to verify your coverage directly with your insurer before our first session.

What happens if I need to cancel a session?

Changes or cancellations made at least 24 hours in advance are free of charge. After that deadline, a fee of 50 % will apply—except in a genuine emergency—to protect the time reserved exclusively for you.

What assurances come with your professional title, and what recourse do I have?

Working with a social worker who is a member of the OTSTCFQ offers concrete protection. This strict professional oversight safeguards your personal information, requires full compliance with a code of ethics and ensures that clinical skills remain up to date.

As a client, your rights are paramount. If you experience discomfort or dissatisfaction with the services received or the billing, clear options are available:

  • Discuss the situation in session: The clinical space is open and allows you to express any discomfort so we can adjust together.
  • Contact the Order (OTSTCFQ): The Order’s mission is to protect the public. At any time, you have the right to ask for neutral assistance, whether to request a review of an account through conciliation or to make a formal complaint.
